LAURA & JACKIE
Laura Takahashi and Jackie Skinner are on the upcoming second season of The Amazing Race Canada. Catch the premiere on July 8th on CTV!
Best friends get married in this story of loving life. Laura Takahashi met Jackie Skinner at staff training for Planet Kids Day Camp, in 1998. Over the decade of summers they worked there, they were committed to creating memories for the staff and kids who attended. Laura and Jackie’s love for Jack Bauer (from TV’s 24), guaranteed their hangouts would be once a week – but over the years the hangouts became daily until BAM… they both realized they were totally down for each other. The girls both knew within days that there were crazy fireworks.
Together, they balance each others’ strengths. Jackie: a natural communicator, logistical master, and party starter. Laura: a driven self-starter with a passion of cooking and eating. Laura and Jackie began to live their dreams together by traveling, meeting their heroes, building a business, writing music, moving downtown Toronto and spreading good karma.
While backpacking South East Asia, Jackie surprised Laura with a proposal in Hoi An, Vietnam. Laura was surprised, but without hesitation accepted. The two partied their way through 5 countries in 72 days.
Surrounded by their families, Laura and Jackie were married on August 16, 2012. The girls exchanged their commitment and registered their marriage officially (Yay Canada)! The day continued with drinks flowing, some hysterical family speeches, delicious local food, and dancing to their favourite songs.
In the band Skinner, Jackie writes and performs original music with her sister Breya. Bre & Jackie Skinner have become known for their onstage presence; an energy that only 2 sisters harmonizing together could offer. Skinner has released a new EP, Young Together on iTunes.
Laura and Jackie continue to live out their lives together in Toronto Ontario Canada. They spread good vibes with good times and build on their relationship. The girls are always exploring the city’s patios and restaurants, planning their next trip to PEI or abroad, checking out bands, entertaining good friends at their home, dressing up their cats, surprising each other with dates, jamming around a fire with family and watching Blue Jays games.
Prior to The Amazing Race Canada, Laura and Jackie have traveled to 16 countries together: England, France, Spain, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, USA and throughout Canada.
